Broadening Our Influences

If we are the sum of our influences, we artists should make sure we are ingesting a wide assortment of media, so that our work becomes unique.

The more we are influenced by only one or two of artists, the more our work becomes homogenized to theirs. The more we consume a singular genre of media, the more we conform to the pack.
We should widen our influences to sharpen our distinctiveness. Then we can be leaders in our unique field, rather than followers in someone else’s.
